The Role
We are seeking a dedicated and highly organised Cover Manager to join a friendly professional support team within a local secondary school. You will be responsible for planning and organising appropriate cover arrangements, utilising internal resources and external partners to ensure that lessons remain seamless and productive for students during periods of teacher absence.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the dedicated absence phone line from 07:00 am each morning, processing notifications and arranging immediate cover.
- Effectively deploy internal Cover Supervisors and coordinate with external supply agencies and casual relief staff as required.
- Provide direct line management for two Cover Supervisors (job-share), ensuring a coordinated approach to classroom support.
- Oversee the Student Study Centre and manage room re-allocations to maintain an environment conducive to learning.
- Support students during absences, ensuring they remain focused on pre-set work while maintaining excellent standards of classroom behaviour.
Person Specification
The successful candidate will be a positive, enthusiastic individual who enjoys working with young people. We are looking for the following qualifications and experience:
- The ability to effectively line manage and organise the work of others, including permanent staff and casual relief teams.
- An understanding of curriculum structures and school timetabling is highly advantageous.
- Proven ability to engage with students and staff in a positive manner while maintaining firm classroom discipline.
- Excellent IT and administrative skills, with the ability to manage data and scheduling software accurately.
- Exceptional organisational skills and the ability to work under pressure and use your own initiative.
- A resourceful approach to problem‑solving and the flexibility to adapt to various tasks as they arise.
- Previous experience working in a school is desirable, though not essential, as we value relevant experience from other fast‑paced coordination or management backgrounds.
