Are you an experienced Technical Buyer with a strong background in machining, metallic components, motorsport or advanced engineering? This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly respected specialist engineering business in Banbury, working on complex, low-volume technical components where quality, lead time, supplier capability and commercial judgement genuinely matter.

As Technical Buyer, you will work closely with engineering, programme, commercial and supplier teams to make sure components are sourced effectively, delivered on time and fit for purpose.

The Role

  • Sourcing complex machining and metallic components
  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, specifications and technical requirements
  • Holding credible technical discussions with engineers and suppliers
  • Using your understanding of manufacturing processes to make effective sourcing decisions
  • Challenging assumptions around cost, lead time, process and technical risk
  • Managing components through the full lifecycle from sourcing to receipt and use
  • Anticipating supplier, quality or technical risks before they affect delivery
  • Ensuring parts arrive on time, to specification and fit for purpose
  • Maintaining accurate purchasing data across pricing, lead times, delivery commitments and invoice resolution
  • Working at pace in a demanding programme-led engineering environment

This Technical Buyer role would suit someone who enjoys the detail behind the part, not just the purchase order attached to it.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience in technical purchasing, ideally within motorsport, advanced engineering, automotive or precision manufacturing
  • Strong experience buying machining, metallic components or engineered parts
  • Confidence reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications
  • A practical understanding of manufacturing processes, especially machining
  • Strong supplier management and negotiation skills
  • Good knowledge of should-cost principles to support sourcing and supplier discussions
  • Experience using ERP or purchasing systems in a fast-paced technical environment
  • IFS experience would be advantageous
  • CIPS qualification would be beneficial, but relevant technical purchasing experience is more important
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work with engineers, programme teams, commercial teams and suppliers

This role is based in Banbury and would be ideal for someone living locally or within a sensible commute of Banbury. You will need to be comfortable working in a high-performance environment where priorities change quickly and supplier decisions can have a direct impact on customer delivery.

What’s on Offer

  • Salary of £40,000 to £55,000 per annum depending on experience
  • 33 days holiday (inclusive of bh), increasing with long service
  • Option to purchase additional holiday
  • Enhanced family-friendly policies
  • Training and professional development opportunities
  • Subsidised onsite restaurant
  • Pension and car salary sacrifice schemes
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Exercise classes and wellbeing support
  • Paid volunteering time
