We are recruiting for a CNC Programmer / Production Engineer to join a high-performing engineering and manufacturing team in Banbury. This role will suit someone with strong CNC programming experience, confident CAM programming skills, and a solid background in precision machining, prototype work or small batch production.
This is an excellent opportunity for a CNC Programmer / Production Engineer who enjoys complex components, technical problem-solving and supporting wider machine shop operations. Experience with HyperMILL would be ideal, but candidates with strong experience in other CAM software will also be considered, including Mastercam, Edgecam, Siemens NX, SolidCAM, Fusion 360, FeatureCAM, Delcam, PowerMill or similar.
The Role
As a CNC Programmer / Production Engineer, you will create accurate CNC programs, produce shop floor documentation and support the day-to-day operation of a busy machine shop. You will work closely with engineering, design, production and buying teams to ensure components are manufactured accurately, efficiently and to the required quality standards. This CNC Programmer / Production Engineer role will involve prototype, small batch and precision machining work, as well as tooling support, routings, job packs, scheduling, maintenance records and production documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Create CNC programs using CAM software
- Produce accurate shop floor documentation, setup sheets and job packs
- Support prototype, small batch and precision machining work
- Programme complex components to a high standard
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, including GD&T
- Work closely with designers, buyers, engineers and production teams
- Support tooling selection, tooling orders and consumables
- Complete routings and structures within the ERP system
- Maintain TPM records and machine maintenance sheets
- Monitor maintenance reports and investigate discrepancies
- Coordinate machine servicing schedules and engineer visits
- Maintain tooling inventory and support tool vending machine stock
- Ensure material, tooling and programming information is accurately controlled
- Support process improvements across the machine shop
- Promote safe working practices within the manufacturing environment
What We’re Looking For:
We are looking for a CNC Programmer / Production Engineer with strong technical knowledge and proven experience in a precision machine shop environment. You will need:
- Experience using CAM software such as HyperMILL, Mastercam, Edgecam, Siemens NX, SolidCAM, Fusion 360, FeatureCAM, Delcam, PowerMill or similar
- Strong machining knowledge across prototype, small batch or batch production work
- Experience programming complex, high-precision components
- Good knowledge of CNC machine tools and manufacturing processes
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, including GD&T
- Strong IT skills and good attention to detail
- A practical, hands-on and problem-solving approach
Highly Advantageous
- 5-axis CNC programming experience
- HyperMILL / Open Mind HyperMILL experience
- Mill-turn or multi-axis machining experience
- Experience with ERP systems, routings or job packs
- Experience with tooling selection, setup sheets or process documentation
- Mechanical assembly experience
- TPM or machine maintenance documentation experience
