About the role and employer
We're recruiting on behalf of a leading independent materials testing laboratory in Banbury, working with aerospace, automotive and power generation clients. Their busy on-site machine shop prepares precision test specimens from a wide range of metals, including aluminium, steel, nickel and titanium, machined to very tight tolerances ahead of mechanical and fatigue testing. This is a genuine trade role with real career depth behind it, not a dead-end shop floor job.
What you'll do:
- Prepare test blanks from bar and billet stock using band saws and abrasive saws
- Operate manual mills and manual lathes to machine blanks to tight tolerances from engineering drawings
- Work across a range of materials, including aluminium, steel, nickel alloys and titanium
- Use measuring equipment (micrometers, verniers) to check work against drawing tolerances
- Follow instructions accurately and work independently once trained
- Build toward CNC milling and turning, and eventually CNC programming, as your skills grow
What you'll bring:
- Genuine hands-on experience across at least two of: operating machines (manual or CNC), using power tools in a work or trade setting, or using precision measuring equipment in a work setting
- Ability to read engineering drawings and work to tight tolerances
- High standard of spoken and written English
- Exemplary timekeeping and attendance record
- Right to work in the UK
- Any CNC milling or turning experience (Fanuc, HAAS) is a strong bonus, but not required
