A client in the strategic advisory and public affairs sector is seeking a Junior Consultant to join the team for an initial 3 month contract. This role would suit someone with a Public Affairs background, i.e. from a Think Tank, Civil Service, Government Consulting or from a Public Affairs advisory firm.
You will support the delivery of client-facing public affairs and policy engagement programmes, working closely with senior leadership on high-profile projects at the intersection of business, government and regulation. This role will suit someone who is highly familiar with how Whitehall operates and can translate that understanding into effective stakeholder engagement and programme delivery across departments.
Responsibilities- Design and deliver engagement programmes for clients, including 1-2-1 meetings, roundtables, events and broader stakeholder initiatives.
- Navigate Whitehall confidently, identifying the right departments, teams and individuals to engage in support of client objectives.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with civil service stakeholders across key government departments.
- Apply policy and public affairs insight to shape programme delivery, stakeholder strategies and client recommendations.
- c.4-6 years’ experience in public affairs, the civil service, or a government-facing policy environment, with strong experience of navigating Whitehall.
- Proven track record of designing and delivering engagement programmes and managing senior stakeholders effectively.
- Strong understanding of UK government structures, departmental dynamics and how to engage effectively across Whitehall.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong judgement, and the ability to work independently in a lean, fast-moving environment.
- Start date: September, with flexibility for an earlier start.
- Part time: 4 days a week.
- Duration: 3 months initially, with potential to extend.
- Day rate: £300 Ltd per day.
