Freshfield is looking for a PR & Media Relations Manager; a brilliant writer and communicator who can help deliver effective PR and communications programmes for clients. This role is suited to a PR and communications professional with two to three years’ agency or in-house experience. We would also welcome applications from ambitious journalists who are interested in making the switch into the PR and communications sector.
Location
This role offers a flexible combination of working from our Preston office, working from home and meeting clients. We will only consider candidates living in the North West.
About the role
Working alongside our senior team, you will support and manage a dedicated portfolio of clients, building close relationships with leading organisations across sectors like property, professional services and social housing. You’ll play an important role in delivering communications programmes that help our clients solve big challenges, increase visibility, build trust and grow. This role is hands-on and varied, combining strong writing, media relations, client service and programme delivery.
Day-to-day responsibilities
- Managing the day-to-day running of client programmes, ensuring deadlines, activity plans and KPIs are met.
- Researching and writing high-quality content, including news releases, media comments, features, blogs and thought leadership articles.
- Identifying strong story ideas, media opportunities and timely ‘newsjacking’ angles for clients.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with regional, trade and B2B journalists.
- Pitching stories and securing meaningful coverage in relevant publications and media outlets, as well as uploading content to client websites and LinkedIn channels.
- Managing and responding to media enquiries, including supporting clients on sensitive or crisis communications issues.
- Building close working relationships with clients, attending meetings and providing regular updates.
- Developing regular client reports and maintaining client resources effectively.
Role requirements
- Two to three years’ experience in a PR, communications, media relations or content role, either agency-side or in-house.
- Alternatively, experience as a journalist with a strong interest in moving into the PR and communications industry.
- Excellent writing skills and the ability to turn complex business subjects into clear, compelling stories and content.
- Strong news sense, editorial judgement and confidence in identifying what will interest journalists and audiences.
- Experience of building relationships with journalists, editors or media contacts.
- The ability to build trusted relationships with clients, colleagues and decision makers.
- A strong understanding of the modern media landscape, including regional, trade, B2B and digital media.
- A proactive, organised and professional approach, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and growing workloads.
- A team player with a strong work ethic, curiosity and confidence to contribute ideas.
- Good IT skills, including proficiency in Word and the ability to use a range of PR and marketing software tools.
