Could you be the person to guide young people to a brighter future? For those with SEN and SEMH needs, engaging with life in the outside world can be daunting. Whether it’s a challenge to engage with education, gain work experience or even just get out and about in the community, our young people have faced barriers that leave them feeling discouraged and disconnected from society. Every young person deserves someone who won't give up on them - could that be you?

At Fresh Start in Education, we’re looking for a proactive, person-centred person to design and deliver personalised learning sessions that spark confidence and a sense of hope for a young adult in the Folkestone area. Whether it’s building on the student's love of cooking, exploring opportunities for future employment, planning and delivering AQA courses, or supporting with everyday life skills, you’ll help the student build resilience and explore their next steps. One learner, one relationship, one small step at a time.

With allowances for travel and resources and full support from our dedicated team, this flexible role gives you the freedom to deliver learning in the ways that you feel best meet the student’s needs and interests. If you have the experience, resilience and commitment to transform lives, we would love to hear from you.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Working 1:1 with a young adult in their home and community in the Folkestone area
  • Planning and delivering personalised sessions that reflect the student’s needs, interests and abilities
  • Running 3 hour sessions on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 1pm - 4pm
  • Conducting risk assessments and ensuring safeguarding procedures are followed
  • Engaging with students who may have ASD, PDA, OCD, sensory or SEMH needs and helping them achieve outcomes at their pace
  • Working flexibly as part of a compassionate, expert-led team that values you and your skills

Who we’re looking for:

  • Experience (at least 1 year) as mentors, teachers, tutors, teaching assistants, SEN specialists and education professionals who have directly supported young people with SEN/SEMH needs
  • A background in AQA, ASDAN, Functional Skills, Post 16 or specialist SEND environments
  • Availability on Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons, 1pm - 4pm
  • An up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding and child protection

What you can expect from Fresh Start in Education:

  • £25–£35 per hour, depending on experience
  • Travel subsidy and £15 per session resource allowance
