Fresh People are recruiting an experienced Logistics Front Line Manager to join a fast-paced, high-volume FMCG operation in Stevenage. This is a transport-led management role, so we are particularly interested in candidates with strong experience managing drivers, transport operations and legal transport compliance. A Transport Manager CPC qualification is highly desirable and will be a key consideration for this appointment.

Reporting to the Logistics Manager, you will take responsibility for leading Drivers and Transport & Despatch Operatives/Coordinators, ensuring the safe, compliant and efficient movement of goods to and from customers.

The Role

  • Leading the day-to-day transport operation across your shift
  • Managing, motivating and developing a team of Drivers and Transport & Despatch Operatives/Coordinators
  • Ensuring full compliance with drivers' hours, Working Time Directive and relevant transport legislation
  • Managing driver performance, standards and driver debriefs
  • Ensuring transport and despatch KPIs are achieved
  • Maintaining high standards of transport Health & Safety and legal compliance
  • Supporting effective vehicle, driver and labour utilisation
  • Using transport scheduling systems to ensure an efficient operation
  • Responding quickly to transport, delivery and service issues
  • Setting clear performance expectations and holding the team accountable against agreed KPIs
  • Recruiting, training and developing Drivers, Coordinators and Operatives
  • Driving continuous improvement, productivity and operational performance
  • Working closely with other operational teams across the site to ensure an effective end-to-end logistics operation

What We Are Looking For

  • Transport experience is essential for this position.
  • Transport Manager CPC qualification – highly desirable
  • Candidates currently working towards CPC or able to demonstrate the capability and commitment to achieve the qualification may also be considered
  • Strong previous experience within transport and logistics operations
  • Good working knowledge of drivers' hours and Working Time Directive compliance
  • Experience managing Drivers within a busy transport operation
  • Previous supervisory or management experience within FMCG, food manufacturing, distribution or another comparable high-volume environment
  • Experience managing transport and despatch KPIs
  • Strong understanding of transport Health & Safety and legal compliance
  • Experience of driver debriefing and performance management
  • Ability to use transport scheduling systems
  • Good IT skills, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Ability to make effective decisions within a fast-paced operational environment
