Fresh People are recruiting for a practical and reliable Facilities Maintenance Technician to support the upkeep, safety and operational efficiency of a number of sites across Kent. This is a varied, hands-on role suited to someone with strong general maintenance experience who is confident completing routine repairs, carrying out site inspections and coordinating external contractors where specialist support is required.
The Role
- Ensuring buildings, grounds and facilities remain safe, well maintained and fully operational.
- Working across multiple sites, responding to maintenance issues promptly and helping to minimise disruption to day-to-day operations.
- Completing routine maintenance and general repairs across buildings, facilities and equipment.
- Carrying out regular inspections to identify and resolve maintenance issues.
- Investigating basic electrical faults and completing practical repairs where appropriate.
- Supporting plumbing, carpentry, mechanical and general building maintenance tasks.
- Managing and overseeing external contractors undertaking specialist works.
- Ensuring contractors are safely briefed and supported when working across unfamiliar sites.
- Maintaining accurate records, maintenance schedules and repair logs.
- Responding promptly to emergency maintenance requests.
- Monitoring stock levels of maintenance supplies and equipment.
- Supporting facility upgrades, renovations and improvement projects.
- Ensuring all work is completed in line with health and safety requirements and company procedures.
The Ideal Candidate
- A practical, self-motivated individual with a strong general maintenance background and the ability to prioritise multiple tasks effectively.
- Previous experience in a Facilities Maintenance Technician, Handyperson, Maintenance Operative or similar role.
- A relevant qualification or practical experience in carpentry, plumbing, engineering or general building maintenance.
- The ability to investigate basic electrical faults.
- Knowledge of building systems, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC and mechanical systems.
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication skills and the confidence to work independently.
- A professional and respectful approach when working with colleagues and contractors.
- Basic IT skills for maintenance records and communication.
- The physical ability to undertake manual work and lift items when required.
