Our client is seeking a skilled and dedicated Gardener to join their growing Landscape and Garden team on a 2,500-acre prestigious private estate located near the Wiltshire/Hampshire border. This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate horticultural professional to contribute to the care, development and presentation of high-quality ornamental gardens and landscaped grounds.
Working within the Ornamental Team, the Gardener will report to the Team Leader, who in turn reports to the Head Gardener. The role requires a strong work ethic, excellent attention to detail, and a proactive, flexible approach.
The Role- General Garden Care & Maintenance
- Assist the Team Leader in planning and carrying out garden maintenance tasks.
- Undertake regular watering, weeding, pruning and fertilising.
- Monitor and control pests and diseases within the gardens.
- Plant, cultivate and maintain flowers, shrubs, trees and ornamental planting.
- Maintain garden tools, machinery and equipment in good working order.
- Assist with landscaping and garden improvement projects as required.
- Attention to Detail & Presentation
- Regularly inspect all areas, including less visible locations, to ensure they are tidy, weed-free and well maintained.
- Maintain high-traffic and prominent areas to an exceptional standard.
- Respect the privacy and confidentiality of the estate’s owners, residents and guests at all times.
- Teamwork & Communication
- Work collaboratively with other members of the garden team to ensure efficient coverage of all tasks.
- Communicate effectively with the Team Leader regarding issues, supply needs or maintenance concerns.
- Inventory & Equipment
- Assist with the management of gardening supplies and equipment.
- Report any maintenance or repair requirements promptly.
- Health, Safety & Compliance
- Work in full compliance with health and safety legislation and best practices.
- Read, understand and follow all risk assessments and safety procedures.
- Help ensure a safe, welcoming and well-maintained environment for owners, residents, staff and visitors at all times.
- Previous practical experience in gardening or landscaping (preferred).
- Good knowledge of plant care and maintenance, including glasshouse production and containerised plants.
- Experience with horticultural power tools.
- Relevant machinery certifications preferred, including:
- Compact tractors
- Small utility vehicles
- PA1 and PA6a
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills and a professional manner.
- Physically fit with the stamina for manual outdoor work.
- Horticulture qualification or related certification (RHS Level 2 or above).
- Full UK driving licence.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to high standards.
- Excellent time management and organisational skills.
- Discrete, reliable, trustworthy and able to maintain confidentiality.
- Proactive, flexible and adaptable, with a strong work ethic and willingness to support other estate teams when required.
This role involves regular physical activity, including lifting, bending and standing for extended periods. The Gardener will work across various areas of the Estate and must be flexible, with occasional weekend work required.
