Established in 1974, Fresh Futures is a regional charity that supports vulnerable and disadvantaged children and young people, and their families, within Kirklees and surrounding areas. The Community Champions are part of the Communities Team within Children and Family Services at Fresh Futures. Their purpose is to act as connectors between Kirklees residents and the wide range of Community Services available across the district. They work directly in community spaces, carrying out outreach to raise awareness of current health initiatives, local services, and the support offered by Fresh Futures. With up-to-date knowledge of what’s happening across Kirklees, the Community Champions can signpost residents to the activities, services, and organisations that best meet their needs.

Role Purpose

  • To support the Fresh Futures Communities Team and Community Champions during their outreach work across Kirklees.

Tasks

  • To support the Communities Team/Community Champions work during outreach work.
  • To promote health initiatives and other relevant community health topics.
  • To support at Fresh Futures events run by the Communities Team at Fresh Futures Events and Meetings.
  • Signpost people to services that may be helpful to them.

Welcomed Experience and Qualities

We welcome applications from individuals who speak community languages, represent the diverse communities of the Kirklees area, and/or come from minority ethnic backgrounds. We also encourage applications from people with disabilities and those with caring responsibilities. Volunteers should show confidence speaking to new people and have good communication and listening skills. They should be able to answer basic queries and signpost/repeat information based on the training and information provided by Fresh Futures.

Support for Volunteers

  • Relevant Training is provided.
  • Access to online and in-person Safeguarding Training.
  • Regular support from our team via phone calls and emails.
  • Travel expenses will be reimbursed.
  • Invited to Fresh Futures induction day.
  • Invites to social events throughout the year.
  • Community Champion Volunteers will never lone work; they will always shadow a Fresh Futures Community Champion.

As a Fresh Futures volunteer, you are expected to:

  • Uphold Fresh Futures values – be inclusive, empowering, caring, trusted, and approachable in all aspects of your role.
  • Be reliable and trustworthy, maintaining a friendly and approachable manner at all times.
  • Treat everyone with respect – acting fairly, honestly, and considerately.
  • Carry out your volunteering duties responsibly and ask for support whenever needed.
  • Complete all mandatory training within the required timeframes.
  • Be punctual and dependable; if you cannot attend a session, inform us with as much notice as possible.
  • Maintain confidentiality and impartiality at all times.
  • Understand and follow safeguarding procedures, including knowing who to report concerns to.
  • Follow all organisational policies and procedures as outlined during induction and in the Volunteer Handbook.
