Freightserve recruitment are looking for an Operations Manager for a well-established Freight Forwarder based in the Heathrow area.
Purpose of role
Under the direction of The Director, the Operations Manager will be responsible for the full management function of the overall performance of the team (10 plus staff) in line with key performance requirements of the department. This is a hands-on managerial role that requires the individual to both manage and monitor output and deliverables but also take an active involvement to support the managers of each department to ensure operational success.
Responsibilities:
- Day to day operational requirement for Cross Border; Ecommerce and EU pallet groupage department and warehouse operations.
- Supporting the team at an Operational Level, with escalation of queries both with staff and with service providers.
- On-going focus to identify continuous improvement opportunities to enhance customer experience and support team effort through innovation and technology.
- Setting, managing and monitoring day to day KPI’s for internal process measure and improvements and ensure that laid out working procedures in each department are followed in conjunction with departmental managers.
- Overall management of team’s performance and output.
- Overall management and resolution of all operational and administrative processes ensuring correct profitability is met.
- Dealing with crisis situations as they arise, including but not limited to transport delays and challenges, ferry and paperwork issues and challenges, tipping and delivery and slot delays or challenges.
- Ability to foresee situations before they arise and put in necessary corrective actions to avoid service failure to customers.
- Support effective implementation of Cross Border operational requirements in conjunction with the warehouse team.
- Ensure own warehouse in UK is operating in a compliant and organized manner that aligns with clients SLA’s.
- Manage and maintain effective relationships with 3rd party suppliers and partners.
- Responsible for staff training and development.
- Responsible for the facility management of the Heathrow site.
- Work in conjunction with the Director for Compliance in terms of H&S requirements.

- Must be well organized and work towards tight deadlines.
- Previous experience in managerial role essential.
- Ability to work at different levels of the organization across countries and disciplines.
- Analytical mind that has the ability to interpret and draw relevant insights from various resources.
- Has exceptionally high level of attention to detail.
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Is open to new approaches and alternative means to accomplish results despite setbacks.
- Ability to manage conflict, solve problems and create sustainable solutions independently and together within the team.
