Freightserve recruitment are looking for an Import / Export Customs Clerk for a well-established Freight Forwarder based in the Slough, Berkshire area.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and submit import and export customs declarations using CDS entries.
  • Ensure compliance with UK customs legislation, trade agreements, VAT, duty rules, and customs procedures.
  • Manage customs documentation such as commercial invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin, and preference certificates.
  • Liaise with HMRC, customers, shipping partners, and internal teams on customs queries.
  • Monitor and resolve customs delays, document discrepancies, and clearance issues.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of UK customs policies and regulatory changes (e.g. CDS transition, post-Brexit trade rules).
  • Support audits, record-keeping, and compliance reporting.
  • Advise on tariff classification, customs valuation, INCOTERMS, and duty relief schemes (e.g. IPR/OPR, RGR).

Key Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in customs clearance or international trade compliance.
  • Strong knowledge of UK Customs rules, HMRC requirements, and trade systems.
  • Experience using CDS and Sequoia.
  • Understanding of tariff codes, commodity classification, and customs procedures.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work accurately under pressure and manage time effectively.
  • Professional qualification (e.g. BIFA, IOE&IT) is desirable but not essential.
