Freightserve recruitment are looking for an Airfreight Operator for a busy well-established Freight Forwarder based in the Windsor area. We are seeking an organized, articulate, and proactive Air Freight Forwarder to join our international logistics team. The Operator within our air freight division coordinates Expedited and Next Flight Out (NFO) movements via air and domestic networks. This position is responsible for interpreting detailed shipping instructions and adhering to client-specific protocols during the execution of export, import and domestic transit. In this role, overall, you will coordinate end-to-end export and import air cargo movements, ensure compliant customs clearance, and manage seamless freight transit in line with local legislation.

The ideal candidate possesses strong operational experience, exceptional communication skills across diverse stakeholders, and a sharp eye for detail to prevent border delays and keep clients fully informed at every stage.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage import and export air freight movements from origin to final UK delivery, securing cargo allocations and negotiating rates with major commercial airlines and cargo carriers.
  • Deliver clear, timely, and concise updates to clients, airline representatives, overseas agents, and hauliers.
  • Convey complex logistics details, routing options, ad hoc cost requests and potential transit delays to manage customer expectations effectively.
  • Prepare and review vital transport documentation, including House and Master Air Waybills (HAWB & MAWB), commercial invoices, packing lists, Certificates of Origin and Carnet.
  • Utilizing an external customs broker for final customs clearance.
  • Maintain strong relationships with airlines, ground handling agents (GHAs), and UK road transport partners for efficient airport transfers and final-mile deliveries.
  • Audit airline and supplier invoices against agreed tariffs.
  • Ensure full compliance with HMRC customs regulations, CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) air security requirements, and BIFA Standard Trading Conditions.

Qualifications & Essential Skills

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to maintain a calm, professional tone when handling urgent operational issues, negotiating rates, or resolving client escalations.
  • Direct experience in air freight forwarding within a UK freight forwarding or logistics business.
  • Solid working knowledge of CDS / HMRC procedures, BIFA terms, and IATA guidelines.
  • Dangerous Goods (DG) certificate or willingness to undertake training.
  • Experience with freight forwarding operating systems and other tools.

Working hours are Monday - Friday (Some flexibility will be needed).
