Position Type: Permanent, full-time

Hours of work: 50 hours per week. Flexibility is required as the role includes participation in an on-call rota.

The role

We are looking for the right individual to support our team in Scotland. As a Reefer Engineer, you will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and monitoring of refrigerated shipping containers, ensuring they operate efficiently and meet all safety and compliance standards. You will be expected to participate in an on-call rota to provide out-of-hours support. Company van, fuel card and mobile phone will be provided.

Key responsibilities

  • Carry out repairs and maintenance on refrigerated shipping containers and Gensets to a high standard.
  • Coordinate timely ordering of parts through the office team.
  • Prepare reefers for bookings, including temperature monitoring and setup.
  • Perform testing, repairs, steam cleaning, and Pre-Trip Inspections (PTIs) on refrigeration units.
  • Act as the company’s front-line representative during out-of-hours cover at container ports and with domestic customers.
  • Participate in the call-out rota to provide emergency repairs and data downloads as required.
  • Inspect containers entering and leaving the PTI line for damage, ensuring accurate reporting and appropriate follow-up actions.
  • Support compliance processes and procedures, ensuring a proactive approach to meeting required standards.

About you

  • Proven ability in electrical fault finding.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and sound engineering skills.
  • F-Gas certification (essential).
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Previous experience in the refrigeration industry.
  • Knowledge of transport refrigeration (desirable).
