Join our Southampton team on a full-time, permanent basis!

Location: Dock Gate 20, Southampton

Position Type: Permanent, full-time.

Hours of work: 12‑hour shifts (6am–6pm or 6pm–6am) on a rotating two‑week schedule. This rota includes day and night shifts, as well as weekend working.

  • Week 1: 3 shifts
  • Week 2: 4 shifts

The role of a Technician Grade A is a Safety Critical position.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage, maintain and carry out all designated engineering activities which include Rail Mounted Gantry cranes and plant equipment, ensuring that business requirements are met, and operational availability of assets are fully maximized.
  • Organize and carry out the company’s program of engineering examinations, maintenance events, fault finding, diagnostic checking and repairs of company assets in accordance with the company’s maintenance instructions and procedures.
  • Update and maintain accurate and comprehensive records of maintenance, defect and repair information.
  • Fully utilize Freightliner IT systems relevant to the scope of your work.
  • Participate in the training and development of new recruits and apprentices.
  • Work flexibly within skillset, training and competencies with no job restrictions and give assistance with tasks as directed.
  • The role is a 30/70 split, predominantly electrical.
Key Requirements
  • A qualification and experience from an electrical apprenticeship or NVQ3 equivalent.
  • Must have DC motor and ABB drives experience.
  • Must have PCL experience – Siemens S7, CODESYS.
  • HV switching experience would be an advantage – 5500v and 6000v systems.
  • Mechanical skillset/ability would be beneficial in this role.
  • Must hold a full UK driving licence.
  • Have an ability to work at height.
  • Have a flexible approach and can-do attitude.
  • Be health and safety conscious.

Successful applicants will be subject to a Safety Critical medical, which will include a Drugs and Alcohol screening and will need to provide a satisfactory DBS check.
