Freightliner Ltd is looking for a highly organised and proactive Road Transport Planner to join our team in Liverpool (Garston) on full-time, permanent basis. This is a key operational role where you’ll drive efficiency, service performance, and cost control across our road transport activities.

About the Role

You will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and optimising daily road transport schedules, ensuring containers are delivered and collected on time while maximising cost efficiency.

Working in a fast-paced environment, you’ll collaborate closely with drivers, subcontractors, customers, and internal teams to keep operations running smoothly and resolve issues quickly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute daily road schedules, ensuring effective vehicle utilisation
  • Monitor and control schedules to ensure next-day performance and service delivery
  • Maintain accurate system data within TOPS and vehicle booking systems
  • Continuously review plans in line with customer priorities and changing demands
  • Liaise with Contract Managers to stay aligned with customer requirements
  • Proactively manage ETAs and notify customers of delays or issues
  • Supervise drivers and subcontractors, setting standards and monitoring performance
  • Maintain regular communication with drivers to ensure smooth operations
  • Arrange hired fleet resources where required while controlling associated costs
  • Manage driver start times and minimise overtime
  • Maintain records, bookings, and operational data
  • Ensure compliance with driver hours, safety, and dangerous goods regulations
  • Communicate effectively with customers, service teams, and regional operations
  • Support financial performance analysis and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Work with the Regional Northwest Transport Manager to identify commercial opportunities
  • Adhere to a two shift roster system between the hours of 05.00 and 1900 hrs

About You

  • Experience in transport planning or logistics coordination (road transport preferred)
  • Strong organisational and multitasking skills
  • Confident communicator with a customer-focused mindset
  • Ability to problem-solve in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with planning systems (e.g. TOPS or similar) desirable
  • Knowledge of driver hours legislation and compliance requirements
