About the role

Due to a long‑term serving member retiring, we are looking for a Locomotive Fleet Controller to manage the short‑ and long‑term planning and execution of our locomotive fleet maintenance. You will be based with our control team in Ferrybridge, coordinating with maintenance depots to deliver our train service plan while ensuring high safety and efficiency standards.

On your first day we’ll expect you to have:

  • A mindset of “Safety First” and instil an ethos of continual safety and productivity improvement.
  • Work confidently under own initiative with the ability to report accurately on your requirements and deliverables.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to interact effectively with all levels of staff across the Freightliner UK/Europe region in both written and verbal form.
  • The ability to multitask, work well under pressure, prioritise tasks and manage conflicting demands by navigating complex problems and ensuring effective decision making.
  • Be able to build healthy working relationships with business stakeholders while exhibiting independence and objectivity in thought and action.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure company maintenance policies and standards for scheduled maintenance are adhered to.
  • Engage day‑to‑day with depots and control to ensure sufficient locomotives to meet requirements and that maintenance and repair assignments are met.
  • Ensure all reported defects are actioned.
  • Manage the short‑term maintenance plan for our Class 90 and 66 locomotives.
  • Own the long‑term locomotive maintenance plans.
  • Lead planning calls, analysing open work orders, locomotive dwell time, mileage, etc.
  • Manage our concession process.
  • Host the morning engineering production call.
