Responsibilities

  • Produce and control the road schedule on a rolling daily basis to ensure customer requirements are met in accordance with company and statutory regulations.
  • Maintain service levels safely and cost effectively, identify new business opportunities to improve route profitability.
  • Liaise and communicate with customers, the Senior Transport Manager and Contract Managers to ensure maximum utilisation of the road and rail wagon fleet.
  • Supervise road motor drivers and sub‑contractors to ensure work is completed safely, standards are met and performance is monitored.
  • Plan the daily road schedule and continually review it against customer priorities and requirements.
  • Maintain regular contact with Contract Managers and Drivers to keep up to date with customer demands, delivery progress and any issues.
  • Respond to delivery problems, notify customers promptly, resolve problems as a priority, and maintain good customer relations through regular communication.
  • Deal with discipline and performance problems in liaison with the Road Transport Manager.
  • Use hired road fleet resources when necessary to meet customer requirements, while keeping costs to a minimum.
  • Prepare driver start times and keep overtime worked to a minimum.
  • Communicate with the Road Transport Manager to identify commercial opportunities.
  • Ensure all road movements comply with driver duty hours, dangerous goods movements and other legislative requirements.
  • Adhere to a shift roster system that covers business hours.
  • Undertake other duties as directed by the Road Transport Manager.

Qualifications

  • Possess National CPC and/or International CPC Road Operations Legislation.
  • Knowledge of IT systems: Tops Road, Eric, Excel, Word.
  • Knowledge of ADR Regulations.
  • Knowledge or experience in Road/Rail Transport Planning and Customer Services requirements.
