Freightliner is looking for a Safety & Sustainability Manager to join our team on full time permanent basis and provide expert guidance and support to our engineering colleagues and drive continuous improvement across our Vehicle Maintenance Facilities and wider engineering function. This role is crucial in supporting the management of risk, improving sustainability practices and driving operational excellence within engineering.
This role will be instrumental in ensuring that safety, sustainability and a positive safety culture are embedded in our engineering function so that all our people can go home safely every day.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead safety improvement initiatives and drive a positive safety culture across the engineering function.
- Develop and implement safety & sustainability strategies aligned with company objectives.
- Act as a trusted advisor and critical friend to engineering teams and senior leaders.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, embedding a learning culture.
- Develop safety reports and KPIs, using data to identify trends and drive improvements.
- Conduct audits and inspections, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
- Act as an advisor and change leader, influencing best practices and decision-making.
What We’re Looking For
- Level 6 or 7 qualification in a relevant field.
- Membership in a professional safety body (chartered or working towards).
- Experience in rail engineering, transport, or other safety-critical industries.
- Strong data analysis and reporting skills to track safety trends.
- Ability to influence and challenge leadership teams to drive cultural change.
- A proactive mindset with a passion for continual improvement and sustainability.
- Willingness to travel across the UK as required.
