We are seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Customs Supervisor to manage daily road freight export operations, with a strong emphasis on customs compliance and legislative awareness. This role is critical to ensuring exports - particularly to Southern Ireland and Northern Ireland - are processed accurately, compliantly, and efficiently. You will take ownership of export files from start to finish, liaise with agents and suppliers, and ensure customs procedures are correctly applied and maintained.
Working closely with the Sales team during the onboarding of new customers, you will provide customs guidance, review documentation, and ensure new business is set up compliantly from the outset. In addition, you will lead internal customs-related projects, working alongside Management to implement improvements and report on progress, risks, and outcomes. This position suits someone who enjoys ownership, problem-solving, and being a go-to expert within customs operations.
Key Responsibilities- Manage and complete daily road freight export files from start to finish
- Liaise with overseas agents and suppliers to ensure smooth movement of freight
- Ensure all files are accurately costed, invoiced, and fully maintained
- Support the wider operations team as required by the line manager
- Review customs documentation during new customer onboarding and provide guidance
- Ensure correct customs procedures are consistently applied across the team
- Support the rollout of customs procedure changes in a timely and structured manner
- Maintain full compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in line with customer requirements
- Proactively track upcoming customs and trade legislation
- Communicate potential impacts clearly to internal teams and customers
- Support customers ahead of legislative changes to minimise operational disruption
- Identify and implement process improvements to maintain compliance and efficiency
- Strong understanding of road freight exports into Southern Ireland
- Strong understanding of European international transport movements
- Working knowledge of TSS (or similar platforms), IMMI entries, and full customs declarations for Northern Ireland
- Proven experience in a road freight or customs-focused role
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Proactive problem-solver with a solutions-focused approach
- Confident communicator with agents, suppliers, and internal teams
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Level 2 Award in Customs Practice & Procedure
- Level 3 Certificate in Customs Compliance
- Level 4 Certificate in Advanced Customs Compliance
