Our client is a well-established Freight forwarder, a market leader in the provision of European logistics services to a large number of very substantial manufacturers, importers, and exporters both in the UK and in Europe.
We are now recruiting for a Freight Operations Coordinator to join the road freight team in the St Albans office. This role is for an individual who is passionate, ambitious, intelligent and is attracted to a career in European commerce.
Main responsibilities:
- Organising the movement of cargo across Europe and the UK for both groupage and full trailer loads.
- Communicating accurately in written and verbal form complex instructions to both Customers and Suppliers.
- Providing the highest standards of Customer service.
- Planning and communicating routes to the fleet of drivers.
- Minimising 'off route' mileage to maximise operational efficiency.
- Monitoring drivers' duty and driving time to ensure compliance is correctly followed.
- Processing Customer orders through use of the in-house operating system with an emphasis on attention to detail.
- Compiling customs documentation to facilitate shipment of our client's freight into Europe.
- Building strong relationships with our clients, principally through verbal engagement.
- Quoting transport rates to customers in order to gain orders.
- Communicating with colleagues in different departments to ensure internal procedures are followed correctly.
- Allocation of available resources (trucks, drivers, trailers) to meet clients demands.
The successful candidate must have:
- Freight forwarding Road freight experience.
- Excellent communication skills (Written & Verbal).
- A professional, positive and helpful attitude.
- Commercial acumen with the ability to negotiate directly with clients and suppliers and identify and exploit opportunities to increase both turnover and more importantly profit.
- Presentable, energetic and enthusiastic.
- Strong organisational skills with an excellent memory.
Salary and Benefits:
- £35,000 + dependent on experience plus contributory pension.
- 22 days holiday a year plus eight Bank/Public Holidays.
- Monday to Friday 0800hrs - 1730hrs, 1 Saturday morning every 4 weeks 0830hrs - 1100hrs. Operating a shift system with 3 other members of staff and 1 day per week the individual will finish at 1630hrs.
