This is far more than a traditional Transport Manager role.

The Opportunity

As Group Transport Manager, you will have full responsibility for transport operations across multiple sites, overseeing a fleet of HGVs, vans, trailers and specialist equipment.

Reporting directly to the Group Managing Director, you'll be the driving force behind fleet compliance, driver management, operational excellence and business development, with the autonomy to implement improvements and influence strategic growth.

This role offers a rare combination of operational leadership and commercial involvement, giving you the chance to help develop new revenue streams, expand specialist transport capabilities and build a best-in-class transport operation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Transport Compliance & Fleet Management
  • Act as the nominated Transport Manager on the company's Standard International Operator Licence.
  • Ensure full compliance with Operator Licence requirements, including maintenance planning, driver hours, tachograph records, inspections, defect reporting and MOT scheduling.
  • Take ownership of all company transport assets, including HGVs, trailers, vans, cars and specialist equipment.
  • Maintain accurate fleet compliance records and asset registers.
  • Manage vehicle servicing, taxation, insurance and driver eligibility checks.
  • Oversee regulatory compliance and correspondence with relevant authorities.
  • Implement robust systems and processes to create a fully auditable transport operation.
  • Driver Leadership & Team Development
  • Lead, motivate and develop drivers and transport office teams across multiple locations.
  • Manage recruitment, onboarding, induction, training and performance.
  • Ensure compliance with Driver CPC, licence requirements, medicals and right-to-work checks.
  • Oversee agency driver onboarding and compliance standards.
  • Foster a culture of professionalism, accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Specialist Equipment Compliance
  • Manage LOLER and PUWER compliance for truck-mounted forklifts and lifting equipment.
  • Ensure all inspections, examinations and maintenance schedules are completed and recorded.
  • Maintain training and certification records for operators.
  • Health & Safety
  • Take ownership of transport-related health and safety across the business.
  • Develop and maintain risk assessments, safe systems of work and compliance documentation.
  • Ensure appropriate PPE, first-aid provision and workplace safety standards are consistently maintained.
  • Drive a proactive safety culture throughout operations.
  • Business Development & Growth
  • Support the expansion of the company's haulage and logistics services into higher-value sectors.
  • Help rebuild and develop specialist transport capabilities, including ADR operations.
  • Identify and secure new commercial opportunities.
  • Work closely with customers to deliver premium logistics solutions.
  • Assist with pricing, customer onboarding and contractual arrangements to ensure profitable growth.

Essential Requirements

  • National CPC (Road Haulage).
  • Proven experience operating as a Transport Manager on a Standard International Operator Licence.
  • Strong knowledge of Driver Hours, Tachograph and Operator Licence compliance.
  • Experience managing transport operations and fleet compliance.
  • Strong people management and leadership experience.
  • Ability to travel between multiple operational locations.

Desirable Experience

  • ADR transport operations experience.
  • DGSA qualification or experience working with dangerous goods operations.
  • Knowledge of LOLER and lifting equipment compliance.
  • Event, production, project logistics or specialist transport experience.
  • Business development or commercial experience.
  • Experience implementing Transport Management Systems (TMS).
  • Multi-site operational management experience.
