About Freetrade
Freetrade’s mission is to become the default place to invest. Investing has been too complicated and expensive for too long, keeping millions from making the most of their savings. We’re changing that. We’re building our team and looking for people who are excited to reshape how our customers invest and grow their wealth. If you’re driven by solving complex problems and building innovative products, you’ll fit right in.
2026 is a big year for us. Last year, we announced a game-changing deal to become part of the IG Group. We’ll continue to operate as an independent business while gaining access to the resources and support of an established leader in the space. This year, we’re accelerating our roadmap and taking our products to the next level. We’re building new features like mutual funds, bonds, and family investment tools. We’re also exploring how we can leverage AI to deliver an even better experience for our customers.
About the role:
We’re building out our research team and looking for people who are excited to reshape how our customers invest and grow their wealth. If you’re driven by solving complex problems and building innovative products, you’ll fit right in. While a background in financial services is not essential, this role will require a good level of knowledge and interest in investing, including: UK tax wrappers, common asset types, and strategies for retail investors.
You will:
- Lead your own end-to-end mixed-method research projects, including interviews, surveys, concept testing and usability studies.
- Support other members of the research team on larger projects, such as helping with survey analysis and running interviews.
- Shape discovery work with Product and Design, helping teams define the right questions and approach.
- Synthesise behavioural insights into clear, actionable recommendations that influence product direction.
- Collaborate with Product, Design, Marketing and Data to ensure research is well-scoped and aligned with business goals.
- Support the team in promoting a customer-centric culture across the organisation, ensuring the customer perspective is embedded throughout the product lifecycle.
- Communicate insights effectively to a range of stakeholders, tailoring depth and format to support fast, confident decision-making.
- Help to maintain accurate documentation around research processes and outputs.
You have:
- Strong experience in user research or a closely associated discipline (2-3 years), ideally across consumer-facing digital or financial products.
- A strong track record of converting research findings into meaningful narratives that help stakeholders understand the problems, risks and opportunities.
- Expertise in qualitative and quantitative research methods, such as customer interviews, usability testing, and survey data analysis (experience in R Studio, Python or similar is a bonus).
- A pragmatic, outcome-focused mindset, able to choose the right level of depth for the question and timeline.
- An adaptive approach to research design, going beyond textbook methods to get to answers.
- Experience using AI tooling to speed up research processes and improve efficiency.
- Confidence partnering closely with other researchers, product managers and designers to influence discovery, strategy and prioritisation.
- Strong communication skills, able to make complex insights easy to understand and act upon.
- Curiosity and empathy: you’re motivated by understanding how people think, feel and behave.
- Experience working in fast-paced, iterative environments.
- Experience with user testing tools such as Dovetail, UserTesting.com, or similar.
