We are seeking a pensions lawyer at associate to managing associate level in Bristol (and other regional offices). The Freeths Pensions team is growing, led by Partner James Dean, and works with trustee advisory, corporate support, and public sector pensions work for elite clients including LGPS and central government departments with multi-billion-pound liabilities.
About The Team
The Freeths Pensions team is entering an exciting phase of growth, led by Partner James Dean, who recently joined us from Simmons & Simmons. We’re on a bold journey to elevate our pensions practice in line with the firm’s wider success. Our client base is expanding to include elite trustee clients, significant corporate project work, and public sector pensions including LGPS and central government departments with multi-billion-pound liabilities. The team works closely with our busy and high-performing corporate department, offering a mix of trustee advisory, corporate support, and public sector pensions work.
About The Role
The team are in expansion mode and are looking for Pension lawyers who can be based from any of our regional offices, however in particular our Bristol, Birmingham, Nottingham, Sheffield, Leeds and Manchester offices. You’ll be working alongside highly experienced pensions specialists with expertise across all areas of pensions law. We’re a friendly, collegiate team that values collaboration, idea-sharing, and contributions from all levels. You’ll be expected to deliver technically excellent advice in a clear, accessible way – translating complex pensions jargon into practical guidance for clients. We’re committed to your growth and development, offering support, mentorship, and opportunities to shape the future of the team.
Applications are invited from lawyers who have trained and qualified with a recognised pensions team. Ideally you will be between 2-10 years PQE, however we encourage applications whatever your PQE or experience as the team are very much in growth mode.
Key Responsibilities
- To work to a consistently high level and to provide an exemplary level of client service and care.
- Competent financial management and commercial awareness, including accurate time recording, billing, achievement of firm delivered targets and management of WIP.
- To contribute actively toward business development opportunities to ensure the retention of existing clients and expansion of business.
- To ensure at all times that you maintain up to date technical expertise.
- To be accountable for your own personal development and to continuously develop interpersonal and soft skills.
- To be competent at all times in accordance with the SRA competence standards.
- To carry out any other such reasonable tasks that may be required from time to time.
Your Skills And Qualifications
- Have directly relevant previous experience and have the correct level of post qualified experience (PQE) for the role in question.
- To have a strong commercial acumen and understanding of the industry and business of the client.
- A proven track record of competent financial management, ability to meet client expectations and sound case management skills.
- Good IT skills, experience, and confidence with using case management systems, electronic time recording and general Microsoft packages.
- To be a self-starting, friendly individual with excellent interpersonal skills.
- To be able to consistently demonstrate and embody the firm’s values.
