Pensions Lawyer – Associate – Managing Associate Bristol (All offices)

Freeths Manchester, England, United Kingdom

About The Team

The Freeths Pensions team is entering an exciting phase of growth, led by Partner James Dean. We are on a bold journey to elevate our pensions practice in line with the firm’s wider success. Our client base is expanding to include elite trustee clients, significant corporate project work, and public sector pensions such as LGPS and central government departments with multi‑billion‑pound liabilities. The team works closely with our busy and high‑performing corporate department, offering a mix of trustee advisory, corporate support, and public sector pensions work.

About The Role

The team is in expansion mode and is looking for Pension lawyers who can be based from any of our regional offices, particularly Bristol, Birmingham, Nottingham, Sheffield, Leeds and Manchester. You will work alongside highly experienced pensions specialists across all areas of pensions law. We value collaboration, idea‑sharing and contributions from all levels. You are expected to deliver technically excellent advice in a clear, accessible way and translate complex pensions jargon into practical guidance for clients. We are committed to your growth and development, offering support, mentorship and opportunities to shape the future of the team. Applications are invited from lawyers who have trained and qualified with a recognised pensions team. Ideally you will have between 2–10 years PQE, but we encourage applications regardless of your PQE or experience as the team is very much in growth mode.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide an exemplary level of client service and care.
  • Demonstrate competent financial management and commercial awareness, including accurate time recording, billing, achievement of firm‑delivered targets and management of WIP.
  • Actively contribute to business development opportunities to retain existing clients and expand business.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date technical expertise at all times.
  • Account for personal development and continuously develop interpersonal and soft skills.
  • Operate in accordance with SRA competence standards.
  • Carry out any other reasonable tasks that may be required from time to time.

Your Skills and Qualifications

  • Have directly relevant previous experience and the correct level of post‑qualified experience for the role.
  • Have a strong commercial acumen and understanding of the industry and business of the client.
  • Show a proven track record of competent financial management, ability to meet client expectations and sound case management skills.
  • Good IT skills and confidence with using case management systems, electronic time recording and general Microsoft packages.
  • Be a self‑starting, friendly individual with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Consistently demonstrate and embody the firm’s values.
