Freeths is seeking an experienced knowledge management lawyer to support and work with its Commercial team, as part of the Firm’s expansive Knowledge Management team. This is a flexible, part-time role (ideally 3 days or 4 days per week) which will have a genuine impact on how the team operates. The Commercial team comprises approximately 50 lawyers operating across a range of non-contentious commercial disciplines, including commercial contracts, franchise agreements, IT contracts, data protection transport (specifically bus and rail), infrastructure projects, and health and safety regulatory and compliance work.
The role will be closely integrated with the lawyers in this team, and will report into the Corporate and Commercial Services Division Head of Knowledge Management within the Knowledge Management and Innovation function. This team comprises 15 Knowledge Management Lawyers and legal professionals who work across the firm in different practice areas and locations.
Because this role supports the Commercial group nationwide, it is expected to operate on an agile basis, with considerable flexibility on the balance of home and office working, and is open to candidates in most locations that are within reasonable reach of one or more of the firm’s 13 offices.
The successful candidate must be at least 3 years PQE with expertise in one or more of the areas listed above. Experience of Financial Services regulation and/or intellectual property would be desirable, but not essential.
They will be responsible for a wide-ranging set of KM activities that are critical to supporting lawyers advising clients in this dynamic environment. This will include:
- Horizon Scanning: Proactive, prompt, detailed analysis of proposed and new legislation, regulation, and other legal developments, including input into consultative processes;
- Thought Leadership: Writing insightful content for internal client and social media audiences on legal change and impact on the areas of the Group’s work;
- Training: Providing technical training on significant new developments for lawyers and clients. This will include training on new areas of law as well as more routine training on issues like contract formation, battle of the forms, the use of warranties and indemnities and other technical aspects of contracting to clients as part of the Group’s work winning and client retention initiatives;
- Query and Research support: Helping fee earners with detailed technical questions;
- Template and Precedent Document: Helping fee earners with the creation of template and precedent documents. Helping to keep the Group’s template/precedent/prompt library current;
- Knowledge Capture: Ensuring active fee earner contribution to KM, such as the capture and management of valuable work product (clauses, research notes, legal opinions, etc);
- Agreed Best Practice: Incorporating learnt and captured knowledge into Freeths’ KM resources and processes, with an emphasis on effective use of legal technology and innovation to provide best in class client service;
- Business Development: Supporting lead development and pitches through the KM endeavours outlined above.
