Operating from 13 UK locations, the team provides advice and guidance on mergers and acquisitions, disposals, fundraising, private equity, equity capital markets, due diligence, joint ventures, shareholder arrangements, reorganisations and demergers, corporate structures and governance. The Bristol Corporate team is now experiencing exciting growth and is led by Emily Settle, a recommended lawyer on The Legal 500 and a leading individual in Chambers and Partners. Emily acts for founders in M&A and fundraising transactions and advises a large portfolio of international companies backed by private‑equity sponsors. The team offers a unique blend of top‑level national legal expertise and an international reach with a local platform.
About the Role
Freeths is looking for an ambitious individual to join the Bristol Corporate team. Candidates with at least 3+ post‑qualified experience (PQE) are invited to apply, but the firm would also welcome more experienced lawyers. The role involves working on a full range of corporate work including mergers and acquisitions, shareholders agreements, corporate restructurings, joint ventures and private equity. The team works seamlessly across the firm’s offices, and the successful candidate will be a good team player who is encouraged to network, develop client relationships and progress their career.
Key Responsibilities
- Work to a consistently high level of client service and care.
- Competent financial management and commercial awareness, including accurate time recording, billing, achievement of firm‑delivered targets and management of WIP.
- Drive business development opportunities to ensure the retention of existing clients and development of new client relationships.
- Maintain up‑to‑date technical expertise.
- Accountable for personal development and continuous improvement of interpersonal and soft skills.
- Comply with SRA competence standards.
- Carry out any other reasonable tasks that may be required from time to time.
Your Skills and Qualifications
- Have directly relevant previous extensive experience and the correct level of PQE for the role.
- Strong commercial acumen and understanding of the industry and business of the client.
- Run and manage own case load with minimal supervision.
- Proven track record of competent financial management, ability to meet client expectations and sound case management skills.
- Good IT skills, experience and confidence with case management systems, electronic time recording and general Microsoft packages.
- Self‑starting, friendly individual with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Consistently demonstrate and embody the firm’s values.
