Rainbow Migration is seeking a Legal Officer to advise and improve the representation of LGBTQI+ people seeking asylum, and to help reform the asylum and immigration system to ensure it treats everyone with compassion, dignity, and respect.

The successful candidate will be a qualified solicitor or barrister (authorized to practice without supervision in a legal advice centre) with a valid practicing certificate or accredited to Level 3 OISC with two years’ experience in asylum advice and representation, including legal aid work.

Responsibilities include:

  • Delivering legal advice
  • Building capacity through training
  • Providing second-tier advice
  • Developing a network of practitioners
  • Contributing to policy work

The role involves occasional casework assistance, policy development, and attending meetings with stakeholders. This position offers an opportunity to develop as a lawyer or caseworker, influencing policy and practice. The Legal Officer will not provide direct legal representation but will offer substantive advice and referrals within scope.

Applicants must disclose criminal records at conditional offer stage and undergo an enhanced DBS check due to the vulnerable nature of the work. Salary: Starting at Β£34,000, with potential increases up to Β£37,970 pro-rata for part-time roles, plus pension contributions.

Contract: Permanent.

Hours: Full-time (35 hours), part-time, or job share. Applicants should specify preferred hours. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required with notice.

Annual Leave: 25 days, increasing after 2 years of service.

Location: Remote or central London office, with at least one day per week in the office when face-to-face work resumes. Currently working from home due to Covid-19.
