Customs Operations Manager

We have an excellent opportunity for a Customs Operations Manager to join our Warehouse and Logistics Team, where you will manage the operational procedures relating to HMRC controlled imports. This includes tariff classification, customs declarations, and the Duty Management System (bonded warehouse).
We\’re looking for someone with experience of tariff classification and completing customs entries. You will be highly organised with a keen eye for detail.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
- Ensure all tasks are fulfilled in-line with HMRC regulation and processes defined as part of the company’s AEO certification are adhered to
- To classify all merchandise in line with HMRC guidelines and legislation, requiring that an up-to date knowledge of these is maintained.
- To ensure that all changes to the UK HMRC tariff are maintained on our internal systems and the DMS
- To complete accurate and timely HMRC clearance declarations via the Langdons Duty Management System (DMS) for our Bonded Warehouse; to identify and resolve problems in relation to these and to ensure that month end deadlines are met.
- To work with Import Offices, suppliers, forwarders, and the Buying team to ensure that the correct documentation is provided for each shipment
- To ensure that accurate and auditable files are maintained for all import shipments so that the information required by HMRC for audits and/or duty claims is readily available
- To ensure that the submission of frontier declarations to HMRC by our forwarders are correct and complete
- To monitor of the use of our HMRC deferment account by third parties to ensure that the correct Customs Duty and VAT payments are made
- To arrange export shipments
- To deputise for the Imports Manager; and to provide cover for the Freight Operations Manager
- Organising and maintaining the departmental archives
- To control the creation and release of Transit documentation for arrivals and exports
- To independently deal with queries/requests made by HMRC whilst ensuring accurate information is supplied
- Participate in meetings with relevant process stakeholders as required
- To work on projects as required
- To be committed to the fair treatment of customers at all times
- Ensure compliance with all applicable UK and local regulations, Company Policies and FCA Conduct Rules
