The Uncontested Paralegal manages the full lifecycle of uncontested divorce matters, from the initial intake and drafting to the final Judgment of Divorce, ensuring accuracy, compliance with court procedures, and timely progression of cases. Although most responsibilities fall under a flat-fee structure, precision, consistency, and attention to detail are essential to maintain efficiency and client satisfaction. The position may also provide support in contested matters when assigned.
Core Responsibilities
- Legal Drafting & Document Preparation
- Prepare all required documents for uncontested divorce filings, including:
- Summons with Notice / Verified Complaint
- Affidavit of Plaintiff / Affidavit of Defendant
- Notice of Automatic Orders and Notice of E-Filing
- Child Support Standards Act (CSSA) Worksheet
- Affidavit of Regularity
- Draft the Stipulation of Settlement when both parties have reached an agreement (custody, child support, property, pensions, etc.).
- Prepare the final Judgment of Divorce package, including:
- Findings of Fact & Conclusions of Law
- Judgment of Divorce (JOD)
- Note of Issue / Request for Judicial Intervention (RJI)
- Part 130 / Affirmations / Closing Documents
- Draft Qualified Domestic Relations Orders (QDROs) when applicable (billable work).
- Assist with motions, Orders to Show Cause, or other pleadings as assigned in partially contested matters.
- File all documents through NYSCEF or directly with the County Clerk / Supreme Court.
- Track filing progress and confirm that all documents are properly stamped, signed, and entered into MyCase.
- Monitor the entry of Judgment, confirm receipt of certified copies, and send copies to both parties.
- Maintain accurate timelines and case notes to ensure prompt follow-up and closure.
- Communicate with clients to collect personal information, marriage details, and supporting documents.
- Ensure all client information is entered accurately into MyCase and organized in the proper folders.
- Provide regular updates to clients on filing status, expected timelines, and next steps.
- Coordinate with the Managing Attorney, Office Manager, and Quality Assurance Specialist to confirm compliance with procedural standards.
- Ensure that every active case includes at least one legal task (non-billing) to track progress.
- Participate in monthly file audits and make necessary corrections or updates.
Profile & Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of New York Supreme Court divorce filing procedures.
- Excellent organization and document management skills.
- Detail-oriented with strong grammar and legal formatting proficiency.
- Ability to handle multiple cases simultaneously and meet strict deadlines.
- Prior experience with MyCase, NYSCEF, or similar case management systems preferred.
Contract duration of more than 6 months with 40 hours per week. Languages: Spanish. Mandatory skills: Legal Research, Legal Assistance, bilingual, Legal Writing, Draft Documentation, File Documentation, Legal Consulting, Customer Service Training, Due Diligence, Document Analysis.
