We are seeking a highly experienced ECG algorithm expert to perform a focused architectural review of our existing arrhythmia detection pipeline. This is not a model-training role.

We are specifically looking for someone who has:

  • Designed or significantly contributed to commercial ECG / arrhythmia detection systems
  • Deep experience with QRS detection, rhythm classification, signal quality handling
  • Real-world experience troubleshooting performance instability
  • Strong architectural thinking beyond pure ML

The scope is a short, high-impact review (10 hours max) to identify where our system design may be fragile and recommend corrective architectural adjustments.

We have a multi-lead ECG wearable device (12-lead, chest-based, includes accelerometer). Our current pipeline includes:

  • Bandpass preprocessing
  • Basic normalization
  • Segmentation
  • QRS detection (Pan–Tompkins variant)
  • Traditional VF/AF filters
  • CNN-based beat classification
  • Shutdown logic based on noise detection

We have observed:

  • High false positives for AF in non-AF records
  • Performance sensitivity to preprocessing changes
  • Excessive "shutdown" durations in noisy segments
  • Beat-by-beat instability during ambulatory motion
  • Inconsistent behavior between chunked vs full-record processing

We suspect the issue is architectural (signal quality handling, state management, gating logic), not simply model performance.

We need a senior expert to:

  1. Review our high-level architecture (we will provide diagrams + summary)
  2. Identify structural weaknesses in:
    • Signal quality handling
    • Noise detection & gating
    • Shutdown logic
    • Beat-level vs window-level decision strategy
    • State management across chunks
  3. Advise on:
    • Whether our architecture is fundamentally sound
    • What should move into preprocessing
    • Whether we should shift away from beat-by-beat logic
    • Best-practice architectural patterns used in commercial systems
  4. Provide:
    • A concise written assessment
    • Clear, prioritized recommendations
    • Optional sketch of improved architecture

Important - We are not looking for code rewrites; this is a strategic algorithm review.

Ideal Candidate:

We are specifically looking for someone who has:

  • Expertise in ECG signal processing
  • Experience with commercial arrhythmia detection systems
  • Experience with FDA-cleared or CE-marked cardiac software (strongly preferred)
  • Deep understanding of:
  • Pan-Tompkins and adaptive QRS detection
  • Signal Quality Index (SQI) frameworks
  • Beat vs rhythm-level classification tradeoffs
  • Ambulatory ECG noise characteristics
  • Accelerometer-assisted artifact rejection
  • Regulatory implications of algorithm design

Experience at companies such as: GE Healthcare, Philips, iRhythm, ZOLL, BioTelemetry, AliveCor, etc. is a strong plus.

Deliverable Within 10 hours:

  • Written technical critique (2-4 pages)
  • Identified architectural failure modes
  • Recommended corrective direction
  • Suggested short-term vs long-term strategy

Important: 60-minute technical call to discuss findings.

This role is for experienced ECG algorithm professionals only.
