We are a small education-focused company that develops products designed to help customers learn languages. We are currently creating a new product for English speakers learning beginner-level Mandarin (HSK1), along with a companion mobile app. We are seeking a skilled Mandarin Chinese to English translator and cultural consultant to support this project. Accuracy, clarity, and cultural authenticity are essential.

Scope of Work:

  • Translate content from English into Mandarin (Simplified Chinese) and tone-marked Pinyin
  • Review educational materials and app content for linguistic, cultural, and geographic accuracy
  • Ensure all translations align with official HSK1 standards
  • Provide feedback where context, phrasing, examples, or locations may not reflect authentic Chinese usage or culture

We will begin with a short paid translation assignment. Following the app launch, we anticipate ongoing translation and cultural review support, with potential for long-term collaboration.

Required Qualifications:

  • Native or near-native fluency in Mandarin Chinese and English
  • Strong knowledge of HSK standards (especially HSK1), or willingness and ability to learn quickly
  • Demonstrated experience accurately formatting and using tone-marked Pinyin
  • Comfort delivering translations in three formats: Simplified Chinese, Pinyin, and English
  • Experience working with educational materials, curriculum development, language-learning products, mobile apps, or similar projects
  • Strong understanding of Chinese culture, including holidays, celebratory events, and familiarity with Chinese cities, regions, and culturally significant locations
  • High attention to detail
