This is an exciting new role at Freedom focused on sustainability. You will report to the Environment & Sustainability Manager in the SHEQ department and support the business by complying with environmental regulations, auditing, reporting and ensuring compliance across projects and operations.
Your responsibilities will include coordinating pollution control, waste management, energy efficiency, environmental health and identifying sustainability opportunities. You will also manage and report environmental data and maintain our ISO 14001‑accredited environmental management system.
Key Responsibilities- Contribute to the maintenance of our ISO 14001 accredited environmental management system, including coordinating aspects of impacts registers, environmental management plans, site waste management plans and procedures.
- Gather, cleanse, analyse and report environmental data to produce reports that meet business and client needs within target dates.
- Audit, monitor, ensure compliance and support initiatives on sites and projects concerning waste, circular economy, pollution control, carbon and energy efficiency, and biodiversity.
- Ensure compliance with environmental legislation and stay current with UK, EU and international regulations.
- Provide in‑house subject‑matter expertise and environmental support to project teams.
- Support the Environment & Sustainability Manager with environmental investigations.
- Identify opportunities to reduce energy consumption and waste across projects and operations.
- Update and implement training on environmental awareness, best practice and regulatory changes.
- Carry out impact assessments to identify, assess and reduce environmental risks and financial costs.
- Liaise with clients and internal stakeholders to ensure environmental expectations are met.
- Support the Land Management and Ecology teams to ensure projects adhere to biodiversity protection measures.
- Work with Procurement teams to assess and advise on the sustainability credentials of suppliers and materials.
- Research and promote innovative solutions to support our Net Positive Strategy commitments and operational environmental targets.
- Up to 5 years of experience in environmental management and ISO 14001, preferably within engineering, construction or facilities management.
- Knowledge of UK and EU environmental legislation.
- Strong data analysis, report writing and presentation skills with an eye for detail and high standards.
- Problem‑solving and analytical abilities to identify and mitigate environmental risks.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Environmental degree or equivalent professional certification related to environmental management.
