Our Operations team is looking for a Civils Operative responsible for general ground-work, installation, and site support duties. The ideal candidate is a team player with relevant industry experience and aspirations to progress into supervision and site management roles.

This role is based in Basildon / Essex and is a permanent position. The package includes a competitive salary, a company vehicle, and flexible benefits.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Excavation works including service trenching and operation of small highways maintenance plant and equipment.
  • Conducting ground surveys and locating underground services using cable avoidance tools.
  • Reading designs, reinstating cable joint bays, and installing electrical cables (training provided).
  • Assessing hazards and risks associated with each project.
  • Leading by example and ensuring all work is carried out safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company policies and safety standards.
  • Reporting unsafe conditions or acts to the line manager.
  • Working towards Permit to Dig skills and qualifications.
  • Having a background working near or on electricity distribution networks.

Qualifications and skills required:

  • Understanding of electrical safety rules and relevant certifications such as NRSWA, EUSR, CSCS, CPCS, NPORS.
  • Experience with interpreting mains records.
  • Manual handling, winch, and towing license training.
  • First aid and risk assessment training.
  • Knowledge of hydraulically operated plant and equipment, cable avoidance, and abrasive wheel training.
  • Experience on site with civils tickets such as Streetworks is beneficial.
