Freedom's Network team is currently recruiting a Fitter - Electrical / Mechanical based in the South East due to an increase in confirmed projects with our client. The main purpose of the role is to be part of a team installing and constructing electrical power distribution and transmission systems from 400V to 132kV, ensuring safe, high-quality workmanship and fit-for-purpose networks that promote a positive company image.
The Fitters are responsible for installing ground-mounted and structure-mounted power system components, including cable systems, switchgear, transformers, busbars, relay panels, and associated equipment in substations operating at up to 132kV. They work on-site across the UKPN (EPN/SPN/LPN) DNO regions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Achieving 'Authorised Person' status under the Customer's Safety Rules, enabling independent access to live substations, permit-to-work, and supervision of work parties.
- Performing duties professionally to build customer confidence and support project business growth.
- Adhering to all procedures with safety as a priority.
- Completing assigned tasks to expand skills and knowledge, including excavation, cable pulling, mechanical and electrical fitting, and wiring (relay panels and telecontrol).
Qualifications and experience:
- Mechanical or electrical qualification such as City & Guilds, ONC, 18th Edition, or relevant experience.
- Practical skills with hand tools.
- Basic operational knowledge of electrical or mechanical systems.
- Experience working on HV substation sites, including electrical/mechanical fitting or jointing in open Busbar environments.
- Good knowledge of electrical power distribution systems.
- SMSTS or SSSTS certification is desirable but not essential.
- UKPN or other DNO authorisations.
