Stafford's newly refreshed Gatehouse Theatre is a real jewel in the crown of the county town. As a semi‑producing venue, we are passionate about creativity and making great theatre happen from our fantastic Youth Theatre programme to a wide range of high‑quality touring productions. We’re looking for an experienced Senior Stage Technician with strong all‑round technical skills to join our friendly, supportive team.

The theatre hosts a lively year‑round programme of drama, music and comedy, as well as producing our own in‑house shows, including Youth Theatre productions and our ever‑popular pantomime. Working alongside the rest of the technical team, you’ll play a key role in delivering stage requirements for all productions, events and activities in the main theatre, the MET Studio, and at external venues.

You’ll need solid staging experience and confidence with theatre lighting, ETC desk programming, while a working knowledge of sound installation and operation would be a bonus. Above all, this role is about helping us provide a warm welcome and a high standard of technical support to visiting companies, performers and all users of the venue, as well as supporting other events managed by Freedom Leisure.

Hours: 37 hours a week, Monday - Sunday (rota basis)

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of current stage trends and equipment
  • Manual handling and lifting techniques
  • Working with the Technical Manager in maintaining and developing risk assessments
  • Ladder and tower scope training
  • Reading and understanding lighting and stage plans
  • Knowledge of the Health & Safety legislation
  • Good team player and communicator
  • Ability to work on your own initiative
  • Positive, proactive, self‑motivated and flexible approach
  • Genuine interest in the arts
  • Comfortable working at heights
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends
  • A desire to learn and develop skills
  • A DBS check is required for this vacancy

Desirable:

  • Industry‑recognised qualification or certification in rigging
  • Working at height rescue training
  • Experience as a Stage Technician in a producing theatre
  • A working knowledge of sound is desirable
  • Knowledge of cinema projection and AV (Training is available)
  • First Aid at work
  • Full, clean driving license
  • Portable Appliance Testing
