Summary
Freedom Professional Services is currently recruiting a Senior Design Engineer (Earthing) to join our team. This position is home-based, with attendance required at nearby Freedom or NG Bailey offices as per the company\’s hybrid working policy.
The Senior Design Engineer (Earthing) will be responsible for delivering detailed EHV and HV electrical substation earthing design projects in the UK and internationally, ensuring safety, quality, and environmental standards are met.
The role involves travel to various Freedom / NG Bailey offices and client sites across the UK, with overnight stays where necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and lead technically demanding projects.
- Lead all types of earthing projects from inception to completion independently, ensuring cost-effectiveness and timely delivery.
- Maintain good commercial awareness and build strong client relationships through effective communication.
- Mentor and guide Design, Assistant, and Graduate Engineers.
- Possess detailed knowledge of high voltage earthing design and proficiency with CDEGS software (MALZ, MALT, RESAP).
- Ability to perform studies within CDEGS software, including HI-FREQ, FCDIST, TRALIN, etc.
- Understand complex studies such as impressed voltage assessments and lightning protection risk assessments; knowledge of lightning protection design is desirable.
- Attend and lead design team meetings via Teams or in person.
- Provide engineering solutions through TQ/RFI processes.
- Review and authorize earthing reports and drawings, providing constructive technical feedback.
- Conduct site visits for earthing assessments, design, commissioning, and investigations after failures.

Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor\’s in Electrical Engineering with relevant industrial experience at Earthing Design Engineer level.
- Master\’s in Engineering (desirable).
- Knowledge of CAD and 3D CAD.
- CSCS Card (desirable).
- Full UK Driving License.
