Summary

Our Operations team is seeking a Civils Operative responsible for general groundwork, installation, and site support duties. The ideal candidate should be a team player with relevant industry experience and aspirations to progress into supervision and on-site management roles.

This role requires ensuring all work is completed safely, professionally, and to high standards, in accordance with Freedom policies, procedures, and all relevant standards. Safety must be maintained at all times, ensuring the safety of all personnel around you.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Excavation works, including service trenching and operation of small highways maintenance plant and equipment.
  2. Conducting ground surveys and locating underground services using cable avoidance tools.
  3. Reading designs, reinstating cable joint bays, and installing electrical cables (training provided).
  4. Continuously reviewing hazards and risks associated with each project.
  5. Leading by example and undertaking works safely and efficiently, following company procedures and safety rules.
  6. Reporting unsafe conditions or acts to your line manager.
  7. Working towards Permit to Dig skills and qualifications.
  8. Experience working on or near electricity distribution networks.

Qualifications and skills:

  • Understanding of electrical safety rules and possession of relevant cards (NRSWA/EUSR/CSCS, CPCS/NPORS for mechanical excavators).
  • Ability to interpret mains records.
  • Manual handling and winch training.
  • Towing license and First Aid certification.
  • Risk assessment training and knowledge of hydraulically operated plant and equipment.
  • Experience with cable avoidance, abrasive wheel training, and site experience with civils tickets (Streetworks beneficial but not essential).
