Would you like to make a positive difference to the lives of survivors of torture? Do you have experience of coordinating clinical services delivery to marginalised groups in a community setting?

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Clinician or Counselling Psychologist to work with an innovative and friendly Children, Young People and Families multidisciplinary team at our London Centre, which is a purpose-built centre specifically designed for the treatment of torture survivors, with extensive indoor space and gardens.

Your key areas of responsibility will include:

  • To work with the Children Young People & Families (CYPF) Clinical Team Manager and Head of Clinical Service to implement FFT’s strategic goals. This will involve line management and supervision for clinical staff, volunteers and Clinical or Counselling Psychology trainees, undertaking regular performance reviews, ensuring staff have clear measurable goals and advising the CYPF Clinical Team Manager on the training and supervision needs of those staff.
  • To provide individual/couple/family and/or group therapy sessions to survivors of torture and organised violence and manage an appropriate caseload, ensuring that regular reviews, risk assessments and outcome measures are undertaken.
  • To assess the service users’ needs and create an appropriate, jointly agreed treatment plan which is reviewed regularly with the service user and in collaboration with the clinical team. To offer a range of psychotherapeutic interventions based on client goals and greatest impact.
  • Being an effective role model and leader to encourage, develop and enhance skills of others.
  • To provide centre and duty cover as part of the London Clinical Duty system managing any risk or safeguarding concerns that may arise and escalating any concerns as appropriate to management or designating safeguarding leads.

This is an important role within Freedom from Torture. To be successful in this role you must have a high level of commitment to maintaining excellent standards of client care and service delivery.

You will be qualified in a relevant discipline and accredited and a member of a professional body. You will have an understanding and knowledge of torture and exile on individuals as well as relevant mental health legislation and at least an understanding of one evidence-based approach to trauma therapy; having systemic training is also desirable for this role.

In return, we offer a competitive package, with a generous 30-day annual leave entitlement, and 6% employer pension contribution. We also offer access to additional therapy training including Narrative Exposure Therapy, access to high-quality clinical supervision and an opportunity to hold a small caseload alongside your management practice.

You will also have the opportunity to work closely with the CYPF Clinical Team Manager and Head of Clinical Services and to attend a range of forums and working groups to support the clinical development of Freedom from Torture.

Freedom from Torture is committed to showing the salary for all advertised roles and not negotiating salaries for roles, in light of evidence that this contributes to structural inequality. Our policy is that all appointments will be at the start of the salary range but successful candidates will have the opportunity to move up the scale over time. The progression up the salary range is reviewed on an annual basis and subject to affordability.
