Overview

SC CLEARED. Service Designer role on a 6 month contract (initially). Based: Remote with a maximum of 1 day onsite per month in London. Rate: £Market rates per day (via Umbrella company). Key Responsibilities

  • Service designers are interested in what users are trying to do, service systems and processes, and the structure of the organisations that deliver them and user journeys.
  • Service designers work by looking at the wider picture, connecting products and services to create a seamless customer experience and identify opportunities for improvement requiring support from wider teams to implement.
  • Define and deliver work that creates lasting value and ensures projects achieve their goals through discovery, ideation, design, delivery and measuring impact.
  • Review a journey from start to finish beyond digital, providing an end-to-end view of a product or service without reliance on other teams.
  • Able to work independently and manage service design projects and problem statements while feeding activity to the broader Service Design team.
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders and competently present to all levels; have confidence pushing back when views do not align with project goals or user needs; escalate to the Service Design Lead when required.
  • Conduct Service Discovery to identify and deliver high-quality, user-centered products and services.
  • Create prototypes to demonstrate ideas and how to improve services.
  • Research the problem space, working with the wider UX team and researchers to form and test ideas, designs and solutions with real users; communicate findings into actionable steps for stakeholders and teams.
  • Design and deliver engaging workshops for teams, customers and stakeholders.
  • Enable business focus around customer journey maps and service blueprints to understand current work and identify gaps to develop future state.
  • Ideation and critical thinking: generate ideas and critique effectively; help teams improve creative capability.
  • Think holistically when designing a product or service, while remaining detail-oriented and delivery-focused.
  • Adhere to regulations including Consumer Duty, focusing on delivering good customer outcomes.
  • Raise concerns and challenges to colleagues and senior stakeholders to advocate for the user experience and sound business decisions.

Knowledge, Skills And Experience Required

  • Degree in UX or relevant subject and/or solid experience in a Service Designer position
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, both written and oral
  • Excellent relationship skills – able to operate effectively with internal stakeholders and external suppliers/partners
  • Effective time management of self
  • Ability to review and prioritise workload while managing delivery expectations and deadlines
  • Influence appropriate research methods to assure required outcomes
  • High level of customer focus and understanding of customer needs
  • Ability to user test moderating (all types, particularly one-on-one)
  • Ability to recruit participants and create screeners for research
  • Able to execute and analyse usability test sessions
  • Understanding of agile environments and collaboration with UX teams, designers and developers
  • Demonstrable initiative to innovate and create effective change
  • Precise attention to detail
  • Passion for information architecture/usability/accessibility
  • Experience within a research and digital environment
  • Uses strategic insight to align user research activities with decision making
