We are Frederick Jones (Belfast) Ltd, a family company and we have been making packaging in Belfast since 1944 and selling construction products since the 1980s. We are seeking a Sawmill & Production Operative to work at our Wooden Packaging Production Facility at 17 Napier Street, Belfast, BT12 5FE.

Working in a busy environment, the successful candidate would be responsible for day-to-day machining, manufacture and finishing of wooden and corrugated products within the sawmill, wood and gluing departments.

Applicants would be required to have:

  • 2 years experience of working in a manufacturing environment
  • Due to insurance requirements, must be aged 18 years of age or over

Desirable but not essential experience with:

  • Previous experience of working with timber cutting machinery and wooden products
  • 1 year experience with ISO 9000 quality systems
  • Counterbalance forklift certificate/licence
  • First Aid Certificate

Working Hours: 39 hours per week

  • Monday to Thursday: 7.00am - 12.15pm, 12.45pm - 4.00pm
  • Friday: 6.00am - 11.00am

JOB DESCRIPTION

DEPARTMENT / LOCATION: Wood Department - Napier Street

STATEMENT OF MAIN PURPOSE OF POST: Day to day machining, manufacturing and finishing of wooden and corrugated products within the sawmill, wood and gluing departments.

KEY TASKS:

  • To work in the timber department sawmill, using various types of cutting machinery.
  • Safe operation of machinery used in the cutting, production and finishing of various types and sizes of wooden/corrugated products.
  • Assemble wooden pallets and cases by means of hand nailing and compressed air driven tools.
  • Assemble composite packs - any combinations of wood/plywood/fibreboard/foam, glued and stapled to provide protective packaging.
  • Use of strapping and sealing, foot stapling and stretch-wrapping hand machines, in preparation of packaging for despatch.
  • To ensure the production of orders is correct and to ensure the appropriate documentation is correct.
  • General care and tidiness of machines and production area on a daily and weekly basis and to ensure any problems are immediately reported to a supervisor or management.
  • Adhere to all the company's health and safety procedures.
  • Work flexibly in other areas and in other duties as required by operational needs and as directed by management.
