Make new connections and learn about other cultures by visiting someone from a refugee background to provide friendship, guidance and practical assistance with their settlement.

The Social Support Program links a family or individual of refugee background with a volunteer who visits them at home on a regular basis - days and times flexible. Volunteers may provide a variety of support, such as:

  • Go on outings or participate in activities together
  • Practice conversational English
  • Assist with orientation and connection to the wider Australian community
  • Explaining Australian social/cultural norms
  • Familiarisation of systems (e.g. public transport, shopping)

Mainly female volunteers needed in Adelaide northern suburbs, e.g. Salisbury, Elizabeth, Pennington.

To support newly arrived communities and individuals, empowering them to participate actively in all aspects of life in Australia. We are the longest-serving refugee settlement organisation in South Australia, supporting new arrivals since 1975.
