Why Frazer‑Nash

As a graduate you will typically be working on multiple projects simultaneously, managing your time and rapidly accruing a wealth of experience and skills. No two days in Frazer‑Nash will be the same. You will be surrounded by experts not just in your team but across other fields – whether it’s nuclear, digital, fusion, space or human sciences, we’re an interesting bunch. We have a comprehensive Early Careers package to help you integrate into our business and meet new colleagues. Clear career pathways with appropriate financial rewards will help you develop and nurture your potential and lead to exciting future career prospects.

The Role

This role sits within our submarine-focused team based at Royal William Yard in Plymouth, bringing together a wide range of engineering expertise. You’ll play an integral part in the team while being supported to develop your skills in areas that best match your interests. You’ll gain experience across the full project lifecycle (CADMID), from early design and assessment through to in‑service support and eventual disposal. This could include solving real‑time operational challenges, supporting build and maintenance activities, and helping address complex ageing and material issues as submarines reach the end of their design life. You may work across submarine structures, systems and components (including combat systems), as well as naval reactor plants and the facilities used to maintain them. Opportunities to contribute to safety case development and through‑life safety management also exist. Recent work has included AUKUS, exploring future submarine noise reduction, assessing materials for long‑term use in harsh marine environments, supporting MOD safety analysis in extreme conditions, and contributing to the development of future and current submarine critical naval infrastructure and documentation. Your input to such projects won’t be a ‘light touch’; you’ll roll your sleeves up and get immersed fully, not watching from the sidelines. As part of our Early Careers programme you’ll gain exposure to a variety of projects and business areas, helping you explore both technical and leadership career paths. From day one you’ll take on meaningful responsibility within project teams and engage with clients. There may also be opportunities to travel across the UK and internationally, including site visits, networking events and industry conferences.

We’re looking for good people

  • Problem solvers: able to critically question and solve problems that build on technical understanding, and show initiative and ownership.
  • Team players: able to work with others from different technical backgrounds, build effective relationships and adapt behaviour to the situation.
  • Self‑starters: able and willing to take ownership of tasks, delivering them to the client, project or team to create an impact.
  • Communicators: able to discuss and convey projects and outcomes with internal stakeholders and clients who may be in technical or non‑technical roles.
  • Evaluators: able to evaluate information by understanding context and risk to make logical, informed decisions, creating original and creative ideas through exploration and abstract thinking.

You will need

  • A 2:1 degree or higher (or equivalent/experience) with a related Engineering or relevant scientific bias. Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering are especially desirable.
  • An open‑minded thinker with a curious, collaborative, and creative approach to problem‑solving.
  • Ability to work well in both a team environment and on your own initiative.
