Salary: £65,000 to £90,000 per annum depending on experience

Location: Glasgow, Bristol, Gloucester, Plymouth, Portsmouth or Warrington

Working Pattern: Flexible hybrid working pattern – time split between the office, client sites and working from home

How we work: Frazer‑Nash Consultancy is an established engineering, systems and technology consultancy, specialising in high‑quality support for the Royal Navy’s submarine programme. We are looking for experienced MESM operators to help us grow our submarine capability.

What will you be involved in?

  • Leading safety case documentation to underwrite the operation of the naval nuclear reactor plant.
  • Leading on behalf of client complex and multi‑national work to make future work easier to deliver.
  • Assessment of submarine commission and life extensions.
  • Supporting AUKUS.
  • Embedded client roles supporting all classes of submarines.
  • Conducting safety hazard analysis to inform the design of future submarines.
  • Providing technical oversight to support civil nuclear power stations during planned maintenance outages.
  • Providing S.M. SQEP experience to support facility engineering and empower future‑proof critical shore‑side infrastructure.

Qualifications and experience

  • Experienced MESM Cat. A1.
  • Experience working in the commercial industry in support of the submarine enterprise.
  • Knowledge of submarine whole‑boat or nuclear infrastructure safety cases and safety analysis techniques, including HAZID, hazard management, functional hazard assessment, categorisation and classification.
  • Knowledge of MOD nuclear policies and regulations.
  • Experience in risk management and reduction, including ALARP assessments.
  • Familiarity with technical assurance/governance.
  • Incorporated Engineer or Chartered Engineer status (or working towards this for our more junior roles).

Due to the nature of the work undertaken by Frazer‑Nash Consultancy, candidates will be required to undergo pre‑employment screening and must satisfy UK National Security Vetting clearance criteria.
