Position Title
Hazardous Materials Defence Engineer
Salary Range
Up to £45,000 per annum
Working Pattern
Flexible hybrid working pattern at Frazer‑Nash with time split between the office, client sites and working from home.

What You’ll Work On
- Materials regulations & compliance: learning how regulations such as REACH and RoHS apply in real engineering projects.
- Hazardous materials management: understanding how materials are controlled safely across an asset’s lifecycle.
- Materials assurance activities: helping assess compliance with regulations, client policies, and internal standards.
- Environmental and safety considerations: supporting decisions that protect people and the environment.
- Technical evidence: contributing to clear, well‑structured documentation that justifies engineering decisions.
Day‑to‑day Tasks
- Support technical work on materials compliance and assurance tasks.
- Assist in developing and reviewing compliance processes and documentation.
- Contribute to project work, supporting delivery against scope, quality, and timelines.
- Help gather and interpret information for materials‑related assessments.
- Build familiarity with relevant legislation and its practical implications.
- Work closely with experienced engineers who will guide your development.
- Contribute to technical reports that are clear, accurate, and auditable.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Some experience (industry, placement, or postgraduate work) in a relevant field.
- A degree in materials science, chemistry, engineering, or similar.
- An interest in materials compliance, safety, or environmental impact.
- Clear communication skills—you can explain your thinking and write in a structured way.
- A careful, detail‑oriented approach suited to regulated environments.
Desirable (Nice‑to‑have) Skills
- Any exposure to the defence industry.
- Awareness of REACH, RoHS, or similar regulations.
- Experience with materials testing, lab work, or technical analysis.
- A postgraduate qualification or further study in a related field.

Pre‑Employment Screening
