Job Summary: Are you someone who is passionate about making a difference in the lives of others? We are hiring for a Casual Screening Mammography Technologist at Surrey Memorial Hospital.

Education, Training and Experience:

  • Certification with the CAMRT.
  • Successful completion of CAMRT Mammography 1 or equivalent.
  • One year's recent, related experience in Mammography procedures.

Detailed Overview: Reporting to the Supervisor, Mammography/Bone Densitometry and Site Coordinator, Medical Imaging, the Screening Mammography Technologist practices in accordance with the standards of professional practice as well as utilising a client and family centred care model and the vision and values of the department within Fraser Health (FH). Performs routine screening mammography procedures, observing safe radiation protection procedures. Duties include:

  • Receiving and completing requisitions.
  • Entering relevant data into the Radiology Information System (RIS).
  • Preparing examination trays and patients for specific procedures.
  • Operating computerized imaging equipment including processing and archiving of acquired data.
  • Monitoring patient during procedures.
  • Monitoring equipment performance and maintaining cleanliness of examination rooms.
  • May perform general radiology exams as required.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepares program participants for mammography by explaining procedures and giving directions for participation.
  • Produces and develops mammograms according to program standards.
  • Refers problems regarding quality of images, work procedures or work flow to supervisor.
  • Assists program participants with completion of questionnaire by explaining program requirements.
  • Promotes education in the area of breast cancer and risk factors.
  • Organises films for radiologists to report.
  • Facilitates the workflow of designated work area.
  • Maintains designated work area by checking and cleaning equipment.
  • Participates in maintaining patient and hospital records.
  • Participates in the instruction and orientation of new employees and/or students.
  • Performs a variety of clerical duties.
  • Participates in approved research and special projects.
  • Participates in the departmental Continuous Quality Improvement/LEAN programs.
  • Maintains equipment by monitoring its operation.
  • Immediately reports unsafe situations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Certification with the CAMRT.
  • Successful completion of CAMRT Mammography 1 or equivalent.
  • One year's recent, related experience in Mammography procedures.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the standards of practice and guidelines for Medical Imaging practitioners.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based practice related to designated modality.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of organization policies, procedures and standards of care.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of PACS/Radiology Information Systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.
