About Us

Franklin Steel is a long-established, family-run steel stockholder with depots in Blaydon upon Tyne and Dumfries. We’re proud of our reputation for being reliable, fair, and easy to deal with — the kind of place where customers know us by name.

Role

At our Dumfries depot, we’re looking for a hands-on Assistant Depot Manager / Sales Manager who isn’t afraid to get stuck in. This role suits someone who can handle a bit of everything — from taking telephone orders, helping customers at the counter to planning deliveries, managing stock, and keeping things running smoothly day to day.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Working closely with the Depot Director to keep the depot running efficiently
  • Building great relationships with local customers — both trade and retail
  • Handling enquiries, quotes, and orders with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Helping to manage stock levels, incoming deliveries, and outgoing orders
  • Leading and supporting the small on-site team
  • Keeping the warehouse & yard safe, tidy, and compliant with Health & Safety standards
  • Getting involved wherever needed

What We’re Looking For

  • Someone confident dealing with customers, ideally with sales experience in steel or a similar trade environment
  • A practical, proactive person who takes ownership and gets things done
  • Good communicator with a team-player attitude
  • Comfortable with basic IT (Microsoft Office, email, etc.)
  • Organised, reliable, and willing to take responsibility

What You’ll Get in Return

  • A genuine chance to make the depot your own and help it grow
  • Support from a small, down-to-earth team that values initiative
  • Opportunities to develop your skills and progress within the business
  • A competitive salary and long-term job security

How to Apply

If you’re looking for a role where every day is different — and where your effort actually makes a difference — we’d love to hear from you.

Send your CV and a short note about yourself to robw@franklinsteel.co.uk, or give us a call if you’d like an informal chat first.
