Responsibilities
As Assistant Head of Department, you will work closely with the Head of Department to uphold and promote the College’s values, contributing to a cohesive and forward‑thinking team. You will play a key role in enhancing the quality of teaching and learning, student engagement, and attendance by fostering a supportive, inclusive environment and maintaining strong communication with students and their families. You will also support the effective use of the College’s Information System (Markbook, PI indicators, notes) to ensure timely monitoring and support for all students, particularly those at risk.
In your teaching capacity, you will deliver engaging and innovative lessons across A Level Biology, BTEC (Level 3) Applied Human Biology, and potentially other science areas such as Chemistry, Physics, or Engineering, depending on expertise. You will inspire students to explore the life sciences with curiosity and confidence, preparing them for higher education, apprenticeships, or careers in health, biomedical science, and related fields.

We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic individual with a degree in Biology, Human Biology, or a closely related field, alongside a recognised teaching qualification or being working towards one.
Whether you are an experienced teacher or a trainee/student teacher, we welcome applications from those with a passion for education and the ability to create a dynamic and inclusive learning environment. Strong communication skills, a student‑centred approach, and a willingness to embrace new teaching methods are essential.
