We are seeking an Environmental Trials Lead to own and coordinate environmental testing activities for our weapon systems. Reporting directly to the Head of Systems Proving, you will lead the planning, execution, and reporting of Mechanical & Climatic (M&C) and Electro Magnetic Compatibility (EMC) de risking and qualification trials. You will ensure that all Frankenburg products are robust and reliable for usage in operational environments. At Frankenburg, you will join an exceptional team of experts in technology and national defence, developing advanced missile systems for the free world. You will work in a fast‑paced, engineering‑driven environment where your contribution directly shapes how we verify, qualify, and certify complex defence systems. If you thrive on technical ownership, collaboration, and real impact — we want to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Test Strategy & Planning: Develop and agree comprehensive environmental test and qualification strategies, plans, and schedules in close collaboration with Systems, Design, and external experts, ensuring clear objectives and acceptance criteria.
  • Risk Management: Identify environmental risks early in the product lifecycle, define mitigation strategies and additional testing where required, and manage schedule, resource, and dependency risks.
  • Test Hardware & Production: Define test hardware requirements, including build standards, quantities, and need dates, and ensure early and effective coordination with the Production team.
  • Suppliers & External Testing: Engage with external test facilities and suppliers, generate statements of work, and act as the technical point of contact to ensure on‑time, on‑cost, and on‑quality delivery of subcontracted test programmes.
  • Analysis & Reporting: Analyse environmental test data and produce clear, concise test reports, communicating findings, conclusions, and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Certification & Compliance: Support weapon system certification activities through generation of robust evidence statements underpinned by documented environmental test results.
  • Improvement: Drive continuous improvement of environmental test methodologies, procedures, and risk controls, supporting lessons‑learned reviews and corrective actions.

We Would Love You to Have

  • Educational Background: A technical degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: 5+ years of hands-on experience working in or leading Mechanical & Climatic and EMC test environments. Demonstrable experience in technical management of subcontracted work packages.
  • Technical Skills: A proven track record in planning, executing, and reporting on environmental test activities, ideally within defence or weapons or safety critical engineering sectors.
  • Soft Skills: A proactive, solution-oriented mindset with strong communication and stakeholder management skills. Delivery focused, able to manage multiple priorities and operate effectively in a fast-moving environment.
  • Mission Alignment: Strong alignment with our mission to build affordable and mass-manufacturable defence technologies — ensuring every euro spent moves us closer to our goal.
  • Security Clearance: Willingness to undergo a background check as a condition of employment.

Our mission is ambitious, and it takes a team that works with the same intensity. Own the Mission: Mission first. Always. We choose impact — we focus on what moves the mission forward fastest instead of “nice-to-haves.”
